Help with the imperfect tense in English and French.?

Context makes it clear: for example: "Je regardais la t�l� hier soir" could only really mean "I was watching tv last night"; "Quand j'�tais jeune je regardais la t�l� tous les jours" - could really mean "When I was young I used to watch tv every night" or "I watched tv every night" (in this context "I used to watch" and "I used to watch" mean the same)
