How does judicial branch check the other two branches?

Thousands of ways. Here is an obvious one: The executive accuses a person of a crime, but the judiciary will demand that there be a trial before the person is imprisoned. The prosecutor cannot simply imprison someone. When a cop (executive branch) arrests someone, a court will review that arrest within 48 hours and see if there is cause to continue to hold that person.
