Why are statistical facts so ist?

Statistics are butchered all the time. It's really hard to look at something you see and try to find a bias in it, especially if what you see is the result that you expected. There's a whole science behind research methods and statistics. There are experimenter bias etc... I find that the media really like to create fake statistic because people will tend to watch their news or read their newspaper if it is ist.
